Carrie Lambert-Beatty

is a Harvard University professor in the departments of History of Art and Architecture and Visual and Environmental Studies. She is the author of Being Watched: Yvonne Rainer and the 1960s, the first book-length study of Rainer's influential performance career and an investigation of the intersection of visual art, dance, and media in the 1960s. Her article "Make Believe: Parafiction and Plausibility" introduced the term parafiction to describe contemporary artist's tendency to make aesthetic experience a matter of shifting states of belief.
